How Much Information Does A Restaurant Website Need?

The art of designing websites involves making certain that the information that you provide your visitors is easy to take in, coherent and that it doesn't crowd out the page from other information.

When you're determining what you want to put on your website, start with the basics. You're most certainly going to want your phone number, address and menu on the site. Your phone number and address should be on every single page of the site. This is why most restaurant web design experts want to include it in your logo section. When they do, they know that people who are visiting the site will immediately notice it and they know that, by putting it in the section of the site, they free up the rest of the site to hold other information without it becoming crowded.

Your menu will be a huge part of what makes your site interesting to visitors. The trick is going to be to make certain that you're not putting every single thing you serve up on the first page that they visit. Websites usually use a system of featured items that are put in a position on the front page that makes them very prominent. The rest of the menu can go on its own page. When you're considering what to put on your front page, consider the specials and signature dishes that you would want customers to know about first. Other items can be relegated to a different page and, thus, your restaurant web design doesn't become crowded.

Information about your city is a good thing to include on your pages. Again, the trick to making this work involves making sure that you're not providing so much information about your local city that your site starts looking like a tourist destination. You can provide links to other sites so that visitors can follow them or you can provide a few graphics here and there for local attractions. Don't use too many graphics about the local area or with advertisements from other businesses in your restaurant web design, however. It makes your website look tacky and confusing.

Remember, start with the basics. A restaurant site needs the address, the telephone number and the menu on it. Other great things to include in your restaurant web design are a contact form, a testimonial section and an about us page. Beyond that, be very selective about what you put on your site. People don't go to restaurants sites to read. They go to restaurant sites to determine whether or not they want to stop in for something to eat and, to make that decision, they only need information about what you serve, what hours you're open and how to get a hold of you to make reservations, if needed.
