How NOT To Put Your Baby To Sleep - Series Part 1

There are many ways to put your baby to sleep but some of them are not very safe or ethical ways. I am going to discuss some strategies you should never use to put your baby to sleep. Some of the methods discussed in this article may be illegal where you reside and are not healthy. If someone ever suggests using any of the following methods you shouldn't.

Rub Whiskey On Their Gums Many people from previous generations think this is an effective and ethical way to put a baby to sleep. I do believe that it is effective and probably works quite well. I would also assume that it does a good job of providing teething relief as well. But the fact is that alcohol is poison to the body and I think it is very unethical and possibly illegal to use this method to put your baby to sleep.

Let Them Cry It Out Some parents and many professionals believe it is impossible to spoil a child under 9 months old by picking them up out of their crib when they cry late at night. On the other side of the coin, many parents lay their baby to sleep and let them cry for a set amount of time. Many professionals set the time limit on letting a bay cry for about 20 minutes. So when you put your baby to sleep you should leave them if they are crying for 20 minutes. After that point, go to the crib and cuddle your child and calm them down. After the crying has stopped lay baby to sleep and if he/she continues to cry, let them be for another 20 minutes.

Let Them Play Until They Pass Out Again, this is a terrible strategy and this is why. Babies will go and go and go until they finally pass out. So yes, you can get your baby to sleep this way but it is not healthy for them and will likely drive you up a wall. When babies get tired they get fussy and grumpy. This often results in defiant behavior and lots of crying. Your baby needs to learn how to relax and lie in bed, not doing so is establishing bad habit that you will regret later. What will end up happening is when you put your baby to sleep they will crawl out of the crib because they have become used to becoming completely exhausted..
