How Photovoltaic Solar Panel Differs From Solar Thermal
Going green is the advocacy of many environmentalists
. This is a way of preserving our planet, against pollution and anything that destroys the Earth. The use of solar energy is one way of saving the environment. To an ordinary person, solar energy means savings on electricity expense especially during this period when the rise in the cost of electricity is unstoppable.
There are two ways of harnessing the energy of the sun. One is through photovoltaic solar panels and the other is through solar thermal collector. Photovoltaic, abbreviated as PV, is usually used in homes whereas the solar thermal collectors find better applications in industries.
Solar thermal collector
Solar thermal energy is harnessing the energy from the sun then converting it into thermal energy. It is used in solar power plants. Here, electricity is generated through the use of radiation and heat from the sun. The solar thermal collector is used to heat fluids that produce steam. The generated heat or electricity is then used to move turbines.
Photovoltaic solar panel
We are more concerned on how the photovoltaic solar panel works. The process starts when the rays of the sun strike the surface of the cells of the solar panel. The sunlight will then knock the loose electrons in the panel. An electron imbalance will happen and the discharged electrons will flow from the back to the front of the solar cells. This flow of electrons is more popularly known as electricity. You will be using multiple solar cells which will be connected to a module and multiple modules in turn will then produce an array.
The multiple modules make this PV (photovoltaic) system modular in nature. As such it can start with a basic small system. Depending on your need for electricity, you can add other panels to the existing PV panels. When you think of installing your photovoltaic solar system, you can start first with one or two panels to get the main control set-up. Then as your need increases, you can add some panels.
You can then set-up the main control. For a start, you can have simple small panels which can be upgraded into a complete kind of solar device. You will need several PV panels to harness enough energy from the sun. This will eventually provide sufficient power for your house. Even if you start with only a few PV panels, two or three, you would be guaranteed enough electricity that when used, you will be saving as much as 30% of your monthly electricity bills. The more panels, you have, the more money you will be saving.
If you are trying to find ways on installing photovoltaic solar panels in your home, you can check the different solar panel installers in your locality. You can log on and find in the internet the different websites that advertise their solar panel installation companies.
