How Soon Can I Expect To See The Results From My Liposuction?

One things which draws some people to liposuction (also known as lipoplasty and suction

lipectomy) is that it is sometimes billed as a quick and easy way to lose fat. As opposed to spending months exercising and eating right, just hop onto a surgical table and get it sucked out of you in a few short hours. It should be said that getting a lipoplasty doesn't relieve one of the necessity to live healthily. In fact, lipoplasties work best when they are combined with healthy habits of diet and exercise.

However, even though a change of habits is a good idea to help support the effects of a lipoplasty, it is true that liposuctions do work very quickly. One can typically see results and recover very quickly after this surgery. The exact details of your recovery and results will depend on a number of factors, including your own personal health, the skill of your surgeon and the particulars of how your body reacts to the surgery.

During the surgery, fat is removed by using a special hollow tube called a cannula. This tube is inserted into the area being operated on and moved back and forth by the doctor. As the doctor does this, the cannula breaks down and suctions out the offending fat. Generally, during the surgery, large amounts of fluids will also be introduced into the target area in an attempt to make the fat more manageable and easy to delicately remove.

The body's natural response to trauma is to swell. The extra fluids that were introduced during the surgery can also contribute to swelling. Because of all of this swelling, it is very possible that immediately after the surgery, if may not yet appear as though any fat has been removed at all.

As time goes on, though, the swelling will go down. The excess fluids should drain out in just a few days or possibly a week, which will instantly bring down the swelling to some degree. Over the next couple of weeks or months, the swelling due to tissue trauma will also calm down.

Some amount of bruising is also fairly common, but this too is temporary. The bruises will usually fade and then disappear over the course of a few weeks or months.

After the bruising and swelling is entirely gone, you should have a pretty good idea of the new size and shape of your body. At this point, you should look significantly trimmer than you did before. However, you have still not reached your absolute optimal appearance. You may notice that you have some amount of loose or excess skin. This loose skin will begin to diminish over time as your skin tightens. In general, this tightening reaches its optimum somewhere around 6 months.
