How The Garden Shed Became Sophisticated
Traditionally the garden shed has been the place where people store their dusty old tools to save them having to bring them in the house
. But all that is now changing, with people getting more creative with the uses of this extra space. Sheds are now being used as more than just garden storage, instead being turned into extra rooms for the house, or studios for hobbies or even professional interests.
Rather than creating a mess in the home, a garden shed can prove the perfect place to practice a hobby which requires a lot of space. Shavings and dust are often the by products of wood working for example, which would be better practiced in a shed studio. One shed of the year contender transformed her shed into a sewing room to house her sewing machine and various tools on custom designed shelving.
Making a garden studio can prove a great way to work from home. A resourceful shed owner turned her shed into the perfect base for her book restoration company, complete with library and reading loft. Another shed owner with her own graphic design company created her own home studio to run her business from.
It is also possible to add heating and insulation to garden sheds to turn them into an extra guest room, or even a living room. One man took advantage of his view of rolling hills, by creating an elevated shed atop a frame with a glass wall, which allowed visitors the ideal vantage point. He even went so far as to add sky TV, bunk beds and a compost toilet room.
For the quirkier shed owner, there really is no limit to what you can achieve. Perhaps a full size replica of Dr Who's tardis, or your own mini pub, or a train carriage? Or even a mini nightclub? If you have the time and imagination there really is no limit to what you can do with the humble garden shed.
