How The Political Parties Stack Up On Jobs In East Anglia

We are now just under 2 weeks away from the 2010 UK general election and after the

latest debate in the polls it appears as though the race from number 10 is still wide open, with neither Labour, the Conservatives or the Liberal Democrats able to rack up an impressive majority.

With that in mind it looks like it will be a fraught couple of weeks as each of the parties try to convince the electorate that they are the party to lead the country into this new decade. At the end of the day it will all come down to the policies that they are promising and what they can deliver to the country as a whole, and as the country is only now starting to emerge from the worst economic recession since the 1930's, a lot of the electorate in the Eastern region will be wondering what each of the main parties' policies state about employment and jobs in East Anglia.

Each of the parties will be only too aware that each of their answers to these questions could have a significant impact on the voting that is set to take place on May 6th. So let us take the time to look through the political parties and their policies on employment within the eastern region and how they plan to promote new growth for jobs in East Anglia.

Labour has assigned a pot of cash worth 2 billion pounds, which will be utilised to generate new businesses and will apparently create up to 200,000 jobs. They also claim that 120,000 of those jobs will be targeted at the 18 - 24 year old age range, as they attempt to assist school and college leavers who have found themselves unemployed in these tough economic times. On top of this they also plan to increase the national minimum wage - and there is good news for businesses as they look to cut the business rates from October of 2010.

After that impressive manifesto it would appear that the Conservatives have a lot of work to do in order to convince the people of the eastern region that their party would be best placed to assist the local economy with jobs in East Anglia. Their first policy is to stop the planned rise of the Labour party in National Insurance Contributions for people who earn over 20,000 pounds, further more they plan to stop it entirely for people earning under 35,000 pounds per annum. But maybe on the negative side they are looking to take away benefits for families earning over 50,000 pounds per annum.

Finally the Liberal Democrats claim that they can help the local community in their jobs in East Anglia by ensuring that nobody pays income tax on the first 10,000 pounds that they earn.

Of course we will have to see how all of this pan's out if we have a hung parliament, but remember the parties still have two weeks to convince you that they have the right person for the job at number 10. For those of us looking for jobs in East Anglia, we will be paying very close attention to what the politicians say.
