The best part of the federal pell grants is that the students will not have to repay the amount of money that they would receive as grant. This is because these grants would be awarded on the basis of the financial needs of the people. The financial need formula of the federal pell grants is decided and set by the US Congress. They judge this by using the criteria that the students submit through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Not every student can avail the federal pell grants. These grants are exclusively designed for those families who are financially instable and have low income and who cannot afford the expenses of quality education. The tuition fees have increased immensely and because of this the federal pell grants cannot cover a student's entire educational expense as it could before. A research has showed that in the year of 2006, the pell grants could cover only 31% of the educational cost. This amount is almost half of what it used to cover two decades back. There are various rules that a student has to qualify for if he or she intends to get the pell grants for his or her education. The primary criterion is that of the financial need. The amount that the student would get is highly dependent on the expected family income of the family from which the student hails. The list of rules does not end here. There are high chances that a student might not be able to get federal pell grants from more than one school.
