How To Avoid Being Boring When Advertising

When advertising, you want to do your best not to make it boring

. This is the worst thing that you can do when advertising and it's the fastest way to make your advertising dollars go to waste. Believe it or not, most advertising that you see isn't interesting at all. In fact it is just downright boring, and is something that you see daily in the business world.

This doesn't have to happen to you. Even though providing products and services is a people business, people like to be amused and enthused also. If you can find a way to make your advertising fun to read, then you give a prospect a good reason to pay attention to your ad.

Using humor when advertising is risky, but when done right it can really make your ads effective. No matter what you do, you never want to have a boring ad to read. The number 1 reason most kids in high school don't do their homework is that it is too boring. And the number 1 reason most people don't respond to ads is that it is too boring. So do yourself a favor and liven up your ads.

Advertising isn't meant to be boring. Advertising that inspires interest isn't boring because it resonates with a reader on a deep level. Never follow your rival competitors in their methods of running their business. All go with your gut instinct and advertise in a way that will generate a response.


What you have to remember is that your prospects are looking to solve a particular problem or achieve a certain goal. Your advertising has to be able to do one of these things and I can assure you that when it does your prospects won't find it boring. You see, all prospects want to know "what's in it for them" - so it's your job to let them know how your ad will benefit them in some way.

You should never confuse your interests with your prospect's interests. What you and your colleagues find funny and interesting is not the same as what your prospects find interesting. You should try your best to figure out what it is that your prospects really want and incorporate this into your advertising.

When advertising, you want to lead with your best benefit first. Don't market ideas that aren't useful for your prospects. You prospects are only concerned about what they will get out of doing business with you - so focus on this first. People are only tuned into one station - channel WIIFM - or as I like to called it:

"WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?"

That's right, and until you face and come to terms with this fact, your prospects won't choose to do business with you. Believe it not, your prospects are selfish, and this selfishness should be the cornerstone of all your advertising and marketing. Always market what people want - not what you want. It's the fastest way to earn money in your business. Good luck.
