How To Be Happy Again Through Exercise

After a serious emotional trauma, the hope of being happy again seems lost forever

. Although we are told that the wounds would heal in time, it is very hard to imagine having a normal life after the storm if we are still in the midst of our grief. But people do recover from such things although the length of time it takes is not the same for everyone. For some it takes months, while for others it takes years.

Those who have coping and recovery skills would be able to go back to their normal emotional state faster than those who are not equipped to deal with emotional pain. Some people try to escape from it, some even refuse to face the painful truth because they are more afraid of the potential agony they might have to undergo. What is important to remember is that there is hope, and it doesn't have to be one that is chemically formulated.

It may come as a surprise to many but a great way to deal with emotional pain is by engaging in physical activity. This is not to say however, that anti-depressants and other similar medications should be avoided. The thing is that exercise has been proven to be just as effective, and in some cases even more effective than medication in aiding people who are struggling with depression. What makes it a more ideal method is that exercise does not produce side-effects that chemicals induce such as suicidal thoughts, insomnia and sexual dysfunction.

Working with a psychotherapist may also be good. These professionals are trained to help patients discover why they have not been fulfilling lives. A good therapist can guide and assist you through your personal pain and gradually teach you how to accept and love yourself.


The point of this article however, is to encourage people to first try exercise before starting on any kind of medication or therapy. However, before engaging exercise program, make sure to get your doctor's approval first.

Happiness is not elusive. Below are some ways by which you can attain it through physical exercise:

1. When you exercise, you can draw your attention away from your emotional pain. When done at a particularly challenging intensity, it can even release endorphins or what are commonly known as "happiness hormones". Although the heightened feeling of well-being is only temporary, it makes people appreciate and even want to exercise which is a good thing, whether they're depressed or not. In addition, exercise builds confidence which is what you need to face your emotional pain. Exercise will give you the strength and boldness to deal with your internal troubles.

2. Exercise has always been known to ease anxiety and depression.

3. Your much improved physique will boost your confidence and will make you feel happy about your appearance.

4. Exercise will expose you to a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle that can change you forever.


5. Exercise induces a chemical reaction in the brain which produces a feeling of calmness.

6. The feeling of accomplishment you will feel after completing an exercise session will boost your self-esteem.

7. Exercise also stimulates the brain. It has been proven that people who exercise become smarter. Thus, if you workout regularly, it will be easier for you to learn other skills including those that will help you heal emotionally and allow you to feel genuinely happy again.
