The stated mission of the CRA is to fight for the freedom of cigar lovers to enjoy their passion free from excess governmental intrusion. In particular, they are fighting to oppose smoking bans, government regulation, anti-cigar smoking policies, and cigar taxation. Members of the CRA feel that the anti-tobacco movement has gained tremendous momentum because they have has no real organized opposition. The CRA stands ready to oppose the anti-tobacco and anti-smoking lobby and regain rights that they believe have been taken from them wrongly.

Membership benefits include events that are strictly for members, a key tag, membership card and discounts on various items. Cigar shops, rental cars, hotels and a variety of other discounts are available as a part of the membership benefits. The process to obtain membership and help to have your rights as a smoker protected is a simple one and takes a few minutes of your time to perform.

If you are a cigar enthusiast and want to join the fight, you can become a member of Cigar Rights of America. The CRA offers three different types of memberships. Individual memberships start at $35 a year, or you can purchase a lifetime membership for $500 with a one-time payment or by paying $44 a month for 12 months. Individual members receive a subscription to the CRA publication Cigar Patriot. They also receive members' only discounts on rental cars, hotels, theme parks, and cigar shops. Each new member also receives two limited edition cigars with a total value of $20. There are also memberships for business owners and a more specific membership for lounge owners and tobacconists.

Members can receive optional subscriptions to magazines, limited edition cigars, a pin for lapels and a t-shirt in addition to other benefits. Those wishing to obtain membership must be at least eighteen years of age, fill out the application and pay the required fees. Information obtained by the cigar rights association is used strictly for communication purposes and not sold to a third party.
