How To Become A Plus Size Model Part One

Have you always felt that you have what it takes to make it as a model

? Do you worry that your weight could be an issue as you are not a size zero? Worry not, for you could be a plus size model. Plus sized models include people like Emme Aronson, who was voted Glamour Magazines 'Woman of the Year' in 1997, and Barbara Brickner who has been a plus sized model for 10 years. As a plus sized model you can not only model plus sized clothes, but cosmetics, footwear, household products and appear in television adverts. Here are some tips on how to get your career off and running

Get a second opinion

Before you go running to a magazine with your best polaroid's, try asking an unbiased friend for their opinion on your appearance and if they think you have the physical and mental assets to be successful, or at least, have a good enough look to give it a try.

Get some professional photos done

Try your local classifieds or better yet look online to find a professional photographer in your area who will do a portfolio shoot for you, as you will need this in order to apply for jobs or to an agency. 100 pounds or so should be enough to get the right types of shots which prospective employers will be looking for, and provide you with the content for a comp card.

Get some comp cards

A comp card is a selection of your best photos, in printed or electronic form, including a head shot and a selection of poses selected from your photo shoot. Your photographer might be able to help you with this and even put a design together for you. This may well cost more though. This card can then be used by you or by an agency, if they don't make one for you, to send to employers.

Join a modeling agency

While it is certainly possible to go it alone, you will save yourself a lot of work by joining the right kind of agency. Look for one that specializes in or has a particular focus on plus size modeling so that you will have the best chance of getting as much work as possible. The agency can send your images or comp cards out to people and alert you to people looking for models so that you can get in there first. They can also put your images on their website so that employers can seek you out.

Plus size modeling could be an exciting step for someone with the right look and enough determination.
