How To Build A Profitable Customer List
The question of how to build a profitable customer list is always one that's at the forefront of every good Internet marketer's mind. The IM folks spend a lot of time figuring out how to grow that list and then how to keep the folks on it interested in buying whatever it is the IM is selling. Indeed, building this list is probably one of the most important parts of growing your online business.
Okay, you've started a blog or a straight-up website, and you have products (either real ones or digital items like eBooks, "how to" manuals, software and other things that take up no space) to sell. You even have a good-looking homepage on that site, and the links and widgets, videos have all been embedded correctly, and you are eager to go. This is great.
However, people do not seem to be desirous of leaving their emails, and you need those in order to even start a list. Well, have you looked at what you might be asking of these prospective customers on your homepage, for starters? Is the page clear to them, and can they find out what they need to know with relative ease? If your home page is confusing or it takes too long to move around it, they will quickly leave.
IM people all try to make up an effective "landing page," for starters. This page is filled with good information, presented in short and concise paragraphs and they all have a strong call to action on them. This "call to action" is a direct request to somebody reading it to do something. Either this is usually to leave an email or to flat-out buy what is being sold on the site, or both.
Many times, lists are built quicker through a call to action and what's called an "opt-in." This opt-in is nothing more than you offering them a free gift in exchange for their email, which will then let them in to the page where you make the "squeeze," or sale. People love getting free stuff, and most don't have a problem giving over an email address when they get something of value for it.
In this regard, you'll be giving them a free report or a well-written and informative eBook on something or another. These reports and eBooks can be gotten - in many cases - for free, so don't sweat it. Just keep in mind that every email you get will be of somebody that's interested enough in what you're offering that he or she wants to hear more from you. So take advantage of that and add them to that list that's going to grow and grow, and make you money.
