How To Build A Putting Green

Grass Seed

Instructions:

1.Select where you want to build your putting green and measure out the area with a tape measure to be certain you have enough resources for the size you want. Choose the area that is highest elevated in your backyard or anywhere you are going to make the putting green.

2.Use shovel to remove all poor soil and remove lumps and rocks. Use the metal rake to rake the area to totally rid it of rocks, lumps and other unnecessary items. Use the wheelbarrow to transport the unwanted objects you took out.

3.Dig out the spot with your shovel to approximately 10 inches. Lay a base layer of crushed stone and put in the PVC pipes to ensure outstanding drainage.

4.Lay out a bed of sand making sure that you fill any holes in the crushed stones. This too will help with good drainage. Fill with the sand leaving about an inch for the top soil.

5.Spread out the new, clean top soil and be cautios not to leave any lumps at this stage. A putting green should be smooth and free of lumps. You may add any contour and slope to suit your preferences.

6.Plant grass seeds. Use the best grass on your putting green. For hot weather conditions use Bermuda grass while for colder areas use Bent grass.

7.Run irrigation tubings across the area. This step can be very complicated thus if you do not know how to install it right, it is ideal to hire a professional.

8.Install metal cups for holes.

Tips and Warnings:

The area where you plan to set up a putting green should have suitable drainage. If not, puddles will form and the grass will become useless. Laying the green a little higher than the area can help with drainage.

When choosing the spot for your putting green, bear in mind that traffic areas are unsuitable.

Grass rows well with consistency especially putting green grass thus, it is best to irrigate at the same time daily.

You need a high quality mower later on to gain the levelness and quality of cut.

A putting green takes a lot of time and attention to be properly maintained. To be precisely, it requires mowing every three days, that is, cutting the grass to 3/16 of an inch.

The stability of the grass relies on factors like the terrain, the weather condition, irrigation and the kind of grass planted.

Real putting grass takes time to maintain thus if you are unavailable to take care of a real putting green your other alternative is to purchase a faux one and have it assembled by professionals.
