There are several things you need to consider when shopping for rings
. It is easy to get distracted by all the beautiful rings you might see in the case at a jewelry store, so have an idea of what kind of ring you want before you go to the store.
The first thing that you should consider is how much you will wear your ring. Consider rings with stones that can not be damaged easily if you want to wear your ring every day. Diamonds are a good choice because not only do they shine, you can choose from a variety of styles and they are very durable. If you want a ring to wear just for special occasions, you could consider a ring with a softer stone such as an opal or emerald.
You will also want to learn how to clean your ring the right way and how it should be stored when it is not being worn. Inspect the mounting of the ring for sharp points so that you know whether or not it could snag your furniture or clothing. You will also want to see if the mount will protect the center stone from falling out should it become loose. Learn what your responsibilities are so that you keep any warranty that the ring comes with in force. You may be required to take your ring back to the store periodically to have it cleaned and inspected.
You will want to purchase a ring that is comfortable for you to wear, especially if you want to wear it on a regular basis. Weight gain or loss can affect the size of your finger, so be sure to find out if it can be re sized if needed. Ask if the band of the ring can stand up to everyday wear.
After you buy your ring, it is a good idea to visit with your insurance agent. Some policies will cover jewelery if it is lost or stolen up to a certain amount without an appraisal, but you need to know what that amount is and if you need an appraisal. If you do get your new ring appraised, be sure to keep a copy for yourself.
