How To Close The Sale

How To Close The Sale

How To Close The Sale

In sales, you understand the importance of learning how to close a sale. It's what your primary objective is and without the close, you've completely lost the sale. There are many ways to go about the closing process and there are ways to absolutely increase your effectiveness in making the sale.

Closing is a consistent learning process. It's also a process one must continually improve to get better and better at it. In every sales situation, no matter of big or small, making changes and improvements when necessary is what leads to your growth. That could be growth as a better salesperson, as a better communicator, and hopefully with what's revealed in this article, a better closer.

We must first set out to get a clear and concise idea of what is your objective, what is your goal? Do you want to make X amount of sales before next Friday, next month, 3 days from now, when and what? During this process, don't set up an absolutely ridiculous goal that you know deep down inside you can't achieve within the allotted time. Setup a reasonable and achievable target that you will shoot for.

Each and every time you do this, focus on the end result, on having accomplished this goal of X amount of sales. How would you feel? What would be the first thing you'd say? What would you do next? When you visualize, you achieve at a much more profound rate then just saying something and then going out to do it. The most successful realize the importance of visualization. It's not just some new age "thing" but something that can really change your results.

So, you've got your goal and objective together. Do you just focus on getting X amount of sales? No. That's your target but keep putting in the effort and you can achieve even more than that. Maybe one month you make 24 sales and the next you make 31 or more. It all comes down to putting down the consistent effort (take action), knowing your target objective, and visualizing the outcome.

Now, how do you effectively close a sale? One way is you must demonstrate you understand the customer's wants and needs. For starters, you must be listening to them, more than you're talking. Usually, in a conversation when one person is talking more than the other, it can show that the person is being too pushy, overpowering, and many other possibilities. Either way, talking too much can lead to the person you're speaking with getting uncomfortable. That can be a serious close killer.

Listening is in fact one of the most important parts of the entire sales process. You can learn a tremendous amount about somebody, specifically their wants and their needs, just by keeping somewhat quiet and listening attentively.

What listening also does is shows that you actually care in what is they have to say. You're not constantly interrupting them and are giving them attention. No matter who you are, all of us want attention so giving your potential customers attention, helps you move nearer to the close.

From there, you satisfy their wants and needs. Sometimes salespeople call this "telling the customer what they want to hear" but it's basically re-affirming what you got them to talk about, their wants and needs. This process works best when you customize your message to best fit their desires. Top salespeople understand the importance of customizing your message, that way you can be much more effective in what you say and do, without completely wasting your time and effort in getting the sale.

You want to always speak benefits and not features. Benefits are what are truly paid attention to and features can make your customer confused or not sure exactly how your product or service can specifically help them. Even if it's got all these amazing gadgets and tremendous features, they'll still be clueless and possibly even left in the dark.

Teach them how it will help them in terms of natural benefits. Sometimes you must demonstrate what it does. This is called demonstrating value which shows the benefits your product or service can bring to the individual. You don't want to speak or present in complex terms, phrases, or language because your customer isn't as knowledgeable about the product or service as you are.

Speak in their own natural language. You want to make things simple and easy for them, in ways that they will understand. Your customer will thank you for it and you'll be able to build further and further trust which is how people truly decide whether or not to purchase your product or service.

The key to closing the sale is consistently ask for the sale during the process.

At first, they may be apprehensive and have some objections. Just make sure to be prepared ahead of time and be able to answer their objections fully, honestly, and effectively. Some instances they will have more objections but if you did your job properly and went through what we talked about above, you may not have to worry about objections at all.

At this point, it can go one of three ways: They give in to the sale, they're still not sure about it, or they get uncomfortable and kill your chances of closing. Lots of times when the sale doesn't happen, it generally means the salesperson didn't make the right moves and wasn't able to effectively combat their objections. Other times it can simply mean that they talked to the wrong customer who really doesn't have a need or a want for the product or service.

In most cases however, you just need to keep doing everything above and be consistent throughout presenting your offer. You don't want to be real pushy but instead be firm with them regarding purchasing your product or service. If you properly relay what we talked about above while consistently asking for the sale, chances are you will get it.

And most importantly, trust isn't something that happens instantly. It takes some time before a customer will trust you and end up purchasing your product or service. Just be patient and understanding of the process. Then, you'll start to close one sale after another.
