How To Create An Amazing Flyer In Five Steps

Many advertisers are going back to the basics rather than spending money on online advertisements

, they are going back to the age-old marketing toolthe flyer. When done properly, a flyer can increase traffic to a store and drive up sales of goods and services. There are five steps to think about before creating the most amazing flyer for a business.

1. Obviously, the first stage is to identify who the audience is, who will be on the receiving end of this flyer. When it comes to creating and printing flyers, businesses have approximately three to five seconds to catch the attention of a person. Businesses need to know who their audience is and what they would like to see. One glance is all that is needed to either pull someone in or keep them walking. Whether it is adults, university students, men, women, families, or anything else, the audience must be identified.

2. Second, a business needs to determine the focus of the message on the flyer. There needs to be a headline that is one sentence, no more than eight words. Think of it like Twitter for a business flyer headline short to fit the restrictions but is appealing and has meaning to the person reading it. flyers with long headlines, numerous pictures that do not match up tend to fail because there is confusion. Remember it is all about KISS "keep it simple, Stupid!" or fool proof :)

3. Colors are great for breaking up text and adding to the background of a flyer; however, they need to be used wisely. Businesses should not use color just for the sake of having their flyer be colorful. If there are too many colors, it will be difficult to focus on the flyer. Not only that, but colors convey meaning and emotion. If the flyer is about a sale to provoke men to buy jewelry for a loved one, the flyer should be done in calming colors, not ones that evoke aggression.

4. Organization is just as important. Flyers often have a general headline, a quick statement, and then maybe some supporting material. The most essential thing needs to be placed at the headline and should be the largest on the whole flyer to catch attention. The next largest, font-wise, would be the statement. If people are interested, they will then read through the supporting material. Keep that organized. No one wants to read a messy flyer where their eyes need to dart all over to understand what is being said and/or offered. Also, keep in mind of having an invisible grid - placing all your design pieces - texts, headlines, pictures,... somehow aligned to each other as if they followed a grid. Without it, the flyer looks somewhat off, even though usually you can place what's wrong with it.

5. Lastly, but probably the most important, use fonts that people can read without having to squint or take a minute to figure out if that squiggle is a g or an s. Flyers need to be legible from a distance. Stay away from cursive fonts and hard-to-read handwritings. San serif fonts are often the best to go with. There is the rule of a thumb - to use not more than three type faces on the flyer. If you are using too many fonts, even if they look "fun" to you, overall such flyers don't look professional.
