How To Deal With Difficult MLM Prospects When You Are Trying To Grow Your Network Marketing Business!
We have all had to deal with difficult people! It can be very awkward, especially when one of them is your MLM prospects Working in a people oriented business, where you are talking with a lot of people on a regular basis, you are bound to run into some who are difficult. Here are a few effective ways to handle difficult MLM prospects.
There are people who are just plain abrasive. They can be rude, act like they know it all, they may interrupt you when you are trying to make a point, fire questions at you when you are trying to answer their previous questions among many other obnoxious actions. You should not want these types of difficult people in your business! Their personalities will most likely not allow them to grow a successful business. The great thing about MLM is that you can choose who you want to work with! My advice is to deal with reasonable people only! Be calm with these types of people because many of them like to stir up emotions. You should stay professional and say to them, " I would like to help you more, but I can't. I am going to put you in touch with my company so that they can answer your questions. Do you have a pen and paper?" Then give them the phone number and say goodbye to them.
If you believe that this person is being abrasive because he or she doesn't feel in control and is apprehensive but is generally a nice person you should handle it a bit differently. Whether you are talking with them in person or on the telephone, don't get into an argument or a heated discussion with them at all. Instead, stop talking. Then say to them, "Grab a pen and paper okay? I am going to give you my name and my contact information." Give them the information. Then say, "I am going to email you links to information that will answer all of your questions. When you are ready to begin, please contact me, okay?" It is as simple as that. You may very well get a phone call back in the future from a much calmer and easier to get along with MLM prospect.
There is another category of a difficult MLM prospect. These are generally nice people but they need to have control. They want to control over asking you questions, they will call you five times per day and often in the evening or on the weekend. They will interrupt you because they need an answer at exactly the time they want. MLM requires working on the weekends and evenings and I'm not telling you that it is unreasonable that someone has questions or needs to call you during non-business hours. I believe, however, you should control the times that you are talking with prospects and you should also have control over your presentations and when questions should be asked. Do not let one prospect take over your presentation or dominate your time because it is not fair to the others in the group.
If this happens during your presentation say nicely, "Thank you for all of your questions. I am not singling you out. I should have mentioned this before the presentation. We are going to take your questions after the presentation for a few minutes and then one on one if we run out of time. I only have a limited amount of time tonight to present this information to you so let me just get through this quickly and I promise you I will answer all of your questions. Does that sound okay?" If you are calm and say this in a very friendly manner and say it to the whole group, by not singling out the controller, you will be back in control of the presentation.
Only return or answer calls during times that you designate. Let them leave you a message otherwise. The next time you talk with them, you can say, "I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get back to you last night (or whenever). Just for future reference, the best times to get in touch with me are during the week before 6:00pm. If I can't answer the phone, I will call you the minute I get a chance." This will put you in control of when you are talking to them.
Remember, this is your business. Others should respect your rules but many will not. You can take control back in a way that is not offensive but calmly stating your rules. If they are just plain obnoxious just ask yourself if you really want them in your business in the first place and then move on!
