. It is not because Facebook is not an effective platform but because many have failed to develop an effective Social Media Strategy that would work for their business. A lot of people will start to develop a Facebook page without thinking about what they wanted to achieve in the long run. How do you develop a social media strategy that will work to your advantage?

1.Begin with the end in mind.
Determine your Business Goals and Objectives. Create a system to measure these objectives. Dont forget to put into consideration who will handle the social media part of your business.
2.Know your Target Market.
Understand the needs of your target audience. Different social media channels work differently with different audiences.

Ask yourself questions like: What does majority of your target audience use often? Is it Facebook, Twitter, blogs or forums? Are any of your competitors present in these channels? How can you successfully introduce your business to your niche? Are there any group leaders you can target?
4.Observe and Listen.
To be able to understand your niche better, use social media tools to start subscribing to various conversation and listen to it. What attracts the most attention? Do they have a problem that your business can solve? Make a list of your observation. This note will come in handy when you start building your content plan.
5.Revisit your Goals and Objectives.
After listening and observing your audience, check your goals and objectives. The application of Social Media to your business should not only center your business. You also need to consider your audience.
If your goal is to generate new leads, then think on ways to get your audience interested in what you can offer. Do they respond best via pictures, comments, or recommendation made by their friends?
If you are aiming for more sales, then maybe you can get an email address so you can remind them about your products or upcoming services. Trust is still important. So find ways on how you can gain their trust.
Dont forget to provide fresh, interesting and relevant value almost all the time.
6.Build a Social Media Plan.
What is your approach in providing content? Do you have samples that they can try? Giveaway samples need not be tangible products. They can come in a form of discounts, ebook or coupons.
Develop a timeline. Pick up topics that maybe relevant to your target audience. Your plan should look like a calendar of events.
7.Develop a Content Plan.
A content plan can help you deliver information in a structured manner. It can help you develop content and optimize it with targeted keywords.
Content plan may come in a form of:
-Promotions
-Product Launches
-Feedback on products, services, product ideas or packaging
-News
-Photos
-Market Statistics
8.Implement your Plan.
Some of the ideas you planned out may not always work out as you expect them to but you can learn to adjust them accordingly.
9.Measure Results.
Your goals and objective can be used as a measurement to evaluate the success of your social media strategy. Try to note the things that didnt work out and find ways to improve it.
10.An important Note.
All of this may seem like a tedious process, but you can outsource some of the components and even work with experts in creating your social media strategy.
