Today we touch on proven tips to ease your depression.
1. Keep mind and body busy. It will help to ease your depressive thoughts if you use your brain regularly and you keep physically active. Find things you love doing and keep at it whether it be a stroll in the park, at home reading a book from your favorite author or engaging in charitable events.
By keeping our body and mind busy we have no time left to worry about unimportant things.
2. Eat a healthy diet and keep in shape. Avoiding foods which have lots of sugar, drinking too much caffeine or indulging in a lot of alcoholic drinks will help keep you physically and mentally in shape. Too much sugar or caffeine may give you an initial boost of energy but will leave you feeling lethargic, anxious and very tense. Exercise helps to keep anxiety and depression at bay by producing endorphins which have stress busting properties.
3. Take regular breaks to relax and unwind. Listen to your favorite music, read a romantic novel or soak in a warm soothing bath.
4. Make sure you get enough light and sunshine. Lack of exposure to natural sunlight is to blame for the body secreting a hormone called melatonin which in turn makes us tired and lethargic. Melatonin is only produced in the dark which is why some people suffer with depression more in the dark winter months than in the long summer evenings. If you are unable to take in sunshine then at least use bright lights around your home to offset the darkness.
5. Get a social life outside of the workplace. Spending time with close friends doing activities you both like will give you a boost and that feel good feeling we all need. Remember keeping mind and body busy leaves no time for feeling low and depressed.
