, the right price and the right location?

Decide what part of the Phoenix valley you would like to live in. Do you want to be close to work, close to your college; near the Metro Light Rail? What's the longest commute you'd consider? Long term you'll want an apartment that's in close proximity to what you do on a daily basis.

How much do you want to spend on rent every month? Give yourself a price range, not just a set price. A price range will give you flexibility as you start to consider square footage and amentities.

Decide what amenities are important to you. Living in Arizona ensures that most apartment complexes in metro Phoenix have pools. Do you want covered parking, a gated community? Is a gym important, do you want to be close to shopping, restaurants and bars?

Once you have an idea of what you may be looking for, ask family, friends or co-workers. Look around the area where you currently live and work. Select 2-3 apartment complexes and visit them.

Next, spend a few minutes and go and check out the apartment complex and the models. You can typically find apartments offices open between 10 am to 5 pm most business days and on the weekend. You do not need an appointment. Just explain to the property manager that you are interested in possiblly living there and would like to see a model and walk around the facility.

Lastly, ask what type of apartment move-in specials the apartment complex may be offering. Just like any business in the current economy, apartment complexes also compete for your tenancy.
