How To Gain Confidence - Babies Can Teach You About Building Confidence
We live in a society where we want everything quickly
, ideally yesterday. This might work with things like consumer items, but when it comes to self-development this is a very destructive idea.
The problem is that we are surrounded by marketing messages that promise that we can lose weight in a week and develop confidence in a few days. I honestly wish it was true that you could buy a book on confidence one day, and be totally confident the next day. Sadly, life doesnt work that way. If you want to learn how to gain confidence, you need to copy a baby's approach to learning.
If you think back to anything of significance that you have ever achieved, it took time and patience to achieve it. Think of the two things that most people learn to do early on in their lives, walk and talk. The ability to walk and talk is not to be underestimated. But we all know these skills are not developed overnight.
When you watch a baby try and walk, you can learn some important lessons. First of all, they dont give up. They keep going no matter what. Falling over doesnt put them off. They keep trying. Second of all, they are in it for the long haul. They dont expect to learn in one day. They just keep going until it happens.
Compare that to most peoples effort at self-development. They try once and if they dont succeed they give up. If they cant get results overnight, they get disappointed and move on.
This is clearly not the way to achieve anything. Your desire for instant results will sabotage your success. The best approach is to copy a baby. Take it slow. No hurry. Just keep trying. Dont have a fixed timeframe. It will take as long as it takes. Imagine if you approached your self-development like that?
How many people do you know, who expect quick results, and so they give up if they dont get them. You talk to them a year later, and they still havent achieved anything. If they had just taken small steps, they would be there now.
And thats the key, take small steps every day. It adds up over time. If you apply yourself to improving a little bit each day, your confidence will improve, guaranteed.
