How to Get Best Grip Out of Your Car in Wintery Conditions

When snow starts to fall and ice begins to settle it's hard at the best of times to get any grip. However, there are certain legal changes you can make to your car's tyres to get optimum bite in treacherous conditions.

When it comes to tyre alterations there are three main choices, all of which depend on how bad the conditions are. Check out the list below to find out more about different types of tyre grips.

Snow Socks

Snow socks are definitely for less extreme conditions where snow and ice isn't dangerously deep. However, you still need consistent coverage of snow and ice to make sure you don't damage the snow socks on exposed tarmac. Socks are also easier to put on in comparison to snow chains and can usually be driven on to and wrapped around the wheel. Because they're so easy to take on and off, if conditions change then you can quickly get rid of the sock and revert back to normal tyres.

Snow Chains

For more serious snowfall, snow chains are a perfect alternative. It's important to remember not to drive on clear tarmac with chains on as this can damage the road service. Even though snow chains provide you with an increased amount of grip, conditions will still be treacherous so you must always take car when out on the roads. Chains can be tricky to fit first time so why not get a trained professional to show you first, and then practice at home before the snow hits to make sure youre confident with it!

Winter Tyres

Investing in a spare set of winter tyres is another worthwhile alternative. With winter tyres you have a lot more flexibility as to when they can be used. They're great for wet, slushy and snowy conditions so they won't require changing as you would with a chain or sock. Winter tyres are designed to improve your traction in all wintery conditions so overall theyre a great investment for those colder months.

By investing in the above, you will be prepared for motoring in all weather conditions, be it Snow, ice or severe rain. Always make sure the above are fitted securely to keep you safe, and on the road.
