When it comes to getting faster broadband there are a number of ways to save money
which are worth considering before going on to look at the broadband that's available and signing up more formally.
Here are three tips on getting faster broadband for less money from someone who knows.
The first thing to note when your aim is to get the fastest broadband at the lowest possible price is that the two things will never coincide with the same package.
That is: there are a slew of the fastest broadband deals and one deal that's the cheapest but they won't be the same one.
The exception to this is if the fastest broadband at your property is fairly slow in comparison to broadband deals offered elsewhere. In that case you are getting the best value for money.
When big providers such as Virgin or Sky are available, however, it's a slightly different proposition.
For example, the BT Infinity review has shown that there are only two providers capable of bringing the fastest fibre broadband in the UK to homes.
However, availability to these two is limited so it's only when both are available at one house that the consumer will truly be able to get faster broadband for less.
The second point is that the speed of the broadband will be determined not by the advertised speed but by the technology being used, including the quality of that technology in your local area and the distance of your particular property from the exchange.
Your broadband provider should give you a speed estimate when you sign up in the first place so this is more accurate than that up to speed.
For that reason, don't set much store by most small increases in speed as advertised. Treat 'up to' eight Mb in much the same way as you would a promise of ten Mb. By the same token, don't set much store by the difference between a promise of twenty Mb and a promise of twenty-four Mb broadband speeds.
Finally, we come to the most important part: getting it all for less.
The rule of thumb here is to get as few freebies as you can and stay for as long as possible that's likely to reduce the actual price of the broadband over time since you're not paying for anything extra in the price that you don't actually need.
