Blackheads occur when dead skin and sebum blocks a hair follicle on the surface of the skin
. Due to blackheads the oily skin pores get swollen and the surface gets coarse and rough.
Cleaning the skin with oil control products is a key step towards blackhead prevention and removal. Once cleaning is completed, skin toning is the next step. There are focused masks available to help reducing as well as controlling blackheads. Wherever blackheads appear, those areas should be washed on a daily basis with warm water and a mild cleanser. Whenever the skin feels oily, it should be washed so that there are no blackheads formed.
Certain other precautions that need to be taken for blackhead control and removal are;
Avoid bar soaps as they increase the oil level on the skin.
Avoid using make up on the skin which is susceptible to blackheads.
Maintain a separate towel for the face; use tissues instead.
Regularly clean your face and affected areas so that dust is not attracted.
Pillow covers should be changed regularly.
Avoid oily foods.
You can also follow a routine of taking hot steam to soften blackheads first, post which these can be easily removed.
We can categorize the blackheads treatment in three categories;
Diet,
Skin care regime and
Medication.
The oily foods only tend to aggravate blackheads and hence should be avoided as far as possible.
A thorough skin care regime is also vital to prevent and remove blackheads. Keep the skin as clean as possible and let it not get oily. Incase blackheads get out of control and there is nothing else that will work, one can always move towards medication as the last resort.
