Real-time protection means that the software protects you from viruses automatically, while the data is being accessed. I have used AVG AntiVirus, McAfee, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Norton. Most antivirus programs will recognize infected files as soon as they infect your PC. But Trend Micro's real-time Protection not very impressive. For example, if you goto the website probably contains malicious software program or download malicious programs, Trend Micro allow them run with no immediate alerts. Some of the virus and spyware even didn't trigger an immediate alert when they were downloaded or installed. It's so horrible. Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee give me deep good impression. They works fast and responsive when it came to real-time antivirus and malware protection.

System Resource Usage

System resources include aspects of CPU usage, memory usage, swap usage, and disk and network throughput. If system resource is at high usage, the computer will be choppy, slow, and frustrating. All versions of Norton were much slower, sluggish and more memory. It is still too heavy during a manual scanning and real-time scanning. McAfee and Trend Micro performed slightly better than Norton, but is still too heavy during a manual scan. Kaspersky's resource usage is fair. During real-time protection, Kaspersky used less memory and CPU usage.

Spyware/Adware Protection

You already have some sort of protection against common viruses that affect our computers on a day to day basis, but protection against Spyware and Adware is prove to be vital. Kaspersky did a fantastic job at removing adware and spyware. Even spyware that was recognized as spyware or adware, but not deemed dangerous, was removed anyway just to be safe. Norton's or McAfee's antispyware and adware protection was not as good as it could be. It should be noted that the more dangerous spyware programs were all successfully deleted, but 100 percent of the spyware it found cannot complete removed.

Email Protection

Email Protection means that it will protect your inbox from viruses, spyware, adware, and malware by scanning all incoming and outgoing emails and scans email text for dangerous web-links and malware. Check Norton's email protection, it has the same antivirus scanning engine as the rest of software, so it will add resource usage and tends to slow down your PC. Trend Micro's and McAfee's email antivirus protection get the job done with average results like Norton. Kaspersky's email protection is thorough, but can be a bit sluggish at times. It will be effective at scanning and blocking incoming virus attacks via email. Both Norton and Kaspersky offer adequate email antivirus protection. If you're running either one, you're well-served to have their email protection enabled.

According the above assessment, I think Kaspersky is the finest product in its class, but it is still a bit more expensive than most antivirus software applications, but in most areas of Internet security protection, it's still worth every penny.
