How To Get Your Best Haircut

Men want to look their best, but they may not want to spend time browsing for a new look

. Dont despair! Answering a few simple questions can help lead you in the right direction.

1. How old were you when you chose your current style? Some men have the same haircut for their entire lives; I know that many men avoid change whenever possible. While having the same hair style since you were in the tenth grade may work for some men, it can also lead to some hair horrors! Lets consider some warning signs. Was your current style chosen FOR youlike when your Aunt first put a bowl on your head? Is this the same style you wear in the photo of your Senior Promthe one where youre wearing the baby blue tuxedo? At all costs, you never want to be one of those poor souls sporting the balding mulletgrowing the hair ever-longer in back to compensate for the hair ever-receding in front. This disturbing image leads us into our next question.

2. How much hair do you have? If youre old enough to call yourself a man, then youre old enough to have hair loss. If things look good, consider yourself lucky. If there are changes (andlets face itchange is what life is all about), it may be time to re-evaluate your haircut. If youve been wearing your hair longer but youre starting to see some thinning, it may be a good time to move toward a closer cut style.

3. What is the shape of your face? Youre probably aware of whether your face is oval, round, or square, and if you have any special facial considerations, like a long face or prominent chin. Certain haircuts work best with each shapedont be afraid to research which options are best suited for you.

4. What is your relationship to facial hair? Love it? Hate it? Have it? Cant have it? Want it? Your facial hair (or lack of) should complement your haircut. Take a full beard as an example; pairing a full beard with a long hairstyle gives a distinct Rip Van Winkle feellike youve been sleeping the last twenty years. A full beard is a strong feature, and short hair will help maintain balance. The hair on your head should work in tandem with the hair on your face.

5. Is there a specific appearance youd like to achieve? Certain haircuts can convey certain lookstraditional, professional, youthful, trendy, or tough, to name a few examples.

Your hairstyle is, obviously, only one small cosmetic aspect of you as a person, but a well-chosen haircut will make a good impression, give polish to your appearance, and can reflect your personalitygiving the world a little preview of your character!
