The very best ones use a dual process with ion exchange and sub micron filtering to get rid of 99% of all the contaminants in your water but leave in those essential minerals.

With more and more chemicals getting into the water supply from agricultural runoff and increasing industrial waste, the situation is likely to get worse, especially as the widespread use of chloramine by the municipal treatments is raising the lead levels.

Chloramine is a mixture of chlorine and ammonia and while it kills more bacteria it also leaches lead from the pipes going to your home and the fittings in it. Lead is a toxic substance that causes cancer and a carbon filter can remove over 99% of it to protect your family.

It is important to remember that only 90 of the thousands of chemicals in the water are actually checked for and the safe levels are based on a healthy adult and not a child.
