Aside from saving from the airfare this would even save you from the headaches of traffic jam. It would also be easier to find flights because it is usually not fully booked.

If you book early, airfares are usually cheaper then. You can even wait for promos months before the travel date to take advantage of low prices. This would also give you time to compare prices from one airline to another. You can also include the prices in travel agencies. They could offer accommodation rates too though so you may even save more when booking with them.

By booking early, you can ensure that flights are not yet fully booked. If you wait a few days or even weeks before holidays like Christmas or New Year, you might not find any flight that can still accommodate you on your preferred travel date. Again, even if you find some flights they may be more expensive already. After booking flights though, make sure that you book your hotel reservations too. This would ensure that you would have a place to sleep in while you are on vacation. If you are staying with family or friends make sure that you inform or make arrangements with them so they will not be caught unprepared. They might even like to take some time off work to entertain you while you are in town.

Be Flexible

You would be able to save more on flights if your schedule can be flexible. For instance, you should not travel just a day or two before Christmas Day. Instead you could travel on the 19th of December and get back in the middle of the following week after Christmas. There would not be too many people traveling on those days. On the other hand, you could wait up to less than 24 hours before Thanksgiving to get the best deals because this is when flights are cheapest.

Leave Early

There are usually traffic jams here and there during peak travel days. So you should leave your home early going to the airport to ensure you will be there in time. When you have ample time, you would be less stressed so you will enjoy your vacation better. So you should start your holiday right by leaving early always.
