How To Make Your Yard More Private
Do you yearn for privacy in your own yard? Whether youve got nosy neighbors
, expensive outdoor equipment that you want to keep hidden, or you just like being able to relax without being bothered by anyone or anything else, a fence is a great idea for increased privacy. Keep in mind, however, that not all fences really give you the privacy you want. Chain-link fences, for example, are fully see-through, and while they add security, they dont do much for keeping away prying eyes. For a truly private yard, you need to make sure that you choose a privacy or security fence.
Even with security fences, however, there are a lot of choices to consider. To prevent people from seeing in, go with a fence where the pickets are placed extremely close together, with no space in between. You may also want to avoid lattice work or other fancy designs that allow people to see in. If you still want a pretty fence but without losing your privacy, have your lattice work placed at the top of the fence. This gives you a daintier, friendlier look and feel without sacrificing any privacy as a result.
Keep in mind as well that with many fence designs, you can choose between varying heights and widths. Obviously, the more privacy you want, the taller and wider you should make your fence. Just remember that many neighborhoods and areas do place restrictions on the size of a fence, particularly when it comes to height. So, youll have to work within those requirements as you select your fence. Not doing so can be a very costly mistake and, worst of all, can make it so that you have to tear down your precious fence.
If you want even more privacy and security than your fence alone can offer, get creative! Think about planting bushes or other plants near or even around your fence. If you go with plants of the prickly variety, this makes it a lot less likely that anyone is going to be brave enough to try and get over your fence. As an added hint, these plants are also a good idea under windows or other areas where someone might try and gain entry to your home.
Also, youll want to choose a sturdy aluminum or vinyl fence over traditional wooden fences. Wooden fences are easy to break down, allowing for forcible entry. Vinyl and aluminum fences, on the other hand, are super sturdy and nearly impossible to break into. As an added bonus, they dont require any maintenance either, and they dont suffer from the same rot and warping as other
fence types. There are a wide selection of aluminum and vinyl fences available, so take the time to browse through all your options and choose the one that works best for you and your yard. You can have a private yard and a safer home just by choosing the right fence, so this is truly an investment that will pay off for you in the long run.
