How To Prepare Grain Free Breakfasts
A grain free diet is not that hard to imagine when it comes to lunch and dinner
. However, breakfast without grains seems impossible. You can easily have a salad and meat for the other meals but with breakfast, you will have to look for options that will take the place of the usual doughnut, pancake, toast or breakfast cereal.
You really do not have to give up these breakfast favorites. What you need to do is to change the type of flour you use. White flour is a big no-no. It has a lot of calories but its nutritional content has been zapped away during processing. Instead of using the typical all-purpose flour, use other flour sources such as amaranth, quinoa, almond flour, and flaxseed meal. You can find a lot of simple recipes that make use of these grain free flours and the finished products are, more often than not, better than those made using white flour.
* Eggs are just fine. They are an excellent protein source and are very easy and convenient to prepare. You can scramble, poach or hard boil your eggs. You can even just stick them in the oven if you don't have enough time to prepare breakfast before school or work.
* Crustless quiches are also very simple to prepare. Just mix eggs, cheese, cream and any vegetable or meat that you like. This type of quiche is easy to make and they freeze well. Prepare a batch of different quiches and put it in the freezer. You can microwave a slice or two in the morning for breakfast.
* Bacon and sausage are also fine. Make sure that you get the type that does not contain wheat or corn by checking the nutritional content on the label. Get the very thin cuts of pork or beef. These fry very fast and they are an excellent source of protein in the morning.
* Fruit and low sugar yogurt are simple and convenient. If you take them with some type of protein, you will be able to prevent your blood sugar levels from increasing. If you want something crunchy, sweet and easy to make, try adding a bit of almond or peanut butter. You can also roll up a banana in a Romaine lettuce leaf.
* Smoothies make breakfasts. Just stick a bit of sugar free frozen fruit, some water or fruit just, a handful of fresh spinach and a banana into the blender. Smoothies are easy to prepare, packed with nutrients and are very refreshing as well. They are a fantastic way to get some extra greens in your daily diet. Kids will love a smoothie with fresh or frozen blueberries.
You can come up with a variety of grain free breakfasts. With a little creativity, resourcefulness and planning, you will be able to enjoy breakfast food without the grains.
