Crime appears to be a certainty in our culture and there is no evidence that it can be eliminated. Whether or not it has been reduced, or can be, depends on who you talk to, their motivation, or what location is being discussed. Crime is not evenly distributed. Some areas have higher crime rates than others, but crime free areas are unknown. For those who have been lucky enough to avoid it, things are good. For those who have faced it, things are not so good. Regardless of which side of the coin youre on, the possibility of being victimized is always lingering ahead of you. If you live in a dormitory, an apartment, or while travelling, a hotel, you can reduce your chances of becoming a victim with a portable personal alarm. A door handle alarm can be hung on an inside door knob. If someone merely touches the door knob, this device will instantly emit an 85 to 90 dB alarm sound to scare them away and alert you to the attempted entry. Even if the would-be intruder is wearing gloves, the alarm will sound off. It has a sound/light selector switch which allows you to either hear an alarm or see a flashing light when the door knob is touched. A wedge-shaped door stopper alarm is another good protection device. You just slide it under your door on the inside. If an intruder attempts to open the door, it prevents the door from opening and sounds off a 100 dB alarm blast. This will scare off the would-be- intruder and alert you to the attempted entry. It also has a movement sensor. If anyone attempts to move the unit from its location, it will immediately activate. When traveling, just toss the lightweight unit in your luggage. The on/off switch will prevent it from accidentally sounding. If you are walking, jogging, or going to or from your residence, a key chain alarm is good to have. In case of an emergency, it will be readily available. By pushing a button, it will sound off a brief or continuous 120 dB blast. It also has a built-in flashlight which emits a bright beam of light when needed. There are many other products on the market that you can use for self-protection, but the ones named above will substantially reduce your chances of becoming a successful crime victim.About the Author:
