Some of your guesses will be right and they are reputation makers!Physical CluesLook at readily available visual clues about the person that will tell you something about them. We all reveal a lot by our dress, our physical condition and many other factors. What can you learn from their height and weight, the presence or absence of a wedding ring? There are a multitude of clues that can help you immediately learn more about the person.Body LanguageRead the subject's body language. Before the reading starts and throughout your cold reading, watch the subject's body language carefully. Involuntary gestures, facial expressions, and changes in posture can tell you whether the person is becoming anxious, which is usually a good sign that you are on the right track. Look for changes in breathing, changes in speed of speech or sound of their voice. Many psychics say that a person's pupils will open when they are interested or when you are on the right track but that their eyes will narrow and pupils will close if you are straying from the path.Looks of disappointment can signal that you've said something wrong. Learn as much as you can about body language, but most importantly, just pay attention. As you perform more, you will learn how to interpret body language better.Use Questions Disguised As StatementsMany mentalists ask questions in a way that makes them seem like they could be questions or they could be statements. They make a statement but let their pitch go up at the end, so it could be a question as well. For example, "So, you work with numbers?" Ask questions in such a way so that they can be perceived as statements. That way, if the subject affirms your question, it will seem as though you knew the answer. If the subject indicates that you are wrong, however, it's okay--you were just asking a question.Capitalize On AnswersMost of the time, the subject will volunteer more information than is necessary. He/she might say something like, "No, I don't work with numbers but I work with computers." You can add things, like, "OK, I see how I misinterpreted that." The audience will think you are re-analyzing some image you had in your mind that you misunderstood. Adding things like "Uh huhuh huh." makes it look like you knew about this and were not told by the subject. You now actually know something about your subject, which is more than you could say before. By using this information to ask more questions you can give the impression that you actually know quite a bit about the subject. This, obviously, requires fast thinking, but if you're a good listener - the most important quality for cold readers you will be able to get lots of information using follow up questions.Use Vague Expressions And Follow Up AgreementsIn the example above, you could follow up with something like, "Computers..uh huh and I feel you have been at this a long time." If the subject says, "About three months - " you can reply, "Yes. About three monthsthat's right." Now it appears you know this because no one can say what you meant by "a long time".
