How To Shoot Moving Cars

Today, I would like to give you some brief look at the topic related to photography of moving car by using technique of panning. It is basically a technique that can generate amazing effects of tail light effect (if you learn it perfectly), but it can be done after having a lot of practice.

The basic idea behind the technique of panning is that you need to pan your camera with moving object in time and end up the process by getting a sharp image in a blurred background. It really gives the shoot the impression of speed and movement. This technique is quite effective in capturing the fast objects whether it is a racing car, motor bike and running pet. I personally, fell that panning seems to work the best with moving car that is on a straight trajectory. In addition, it allows you to trace the movements of a moving car in advance. Objects like car that is moving side by side, can be challenging for shots and can result in dull or mess looking shots because blur motion can prove quite erratic.

How you do!

Select a slow shutter speed in your camera. Start with time of 1/30 second and then play with slower ones. It is all based on the speed and light of your moving car as you can end it up between 1/8 and 1/60. However, if you end it up with use of camera shake, it will result in blur effect.

You need to position yourself in such a place from where you can easily view the moving car. Give some focus on the background of your car as well. It will create blur impression if there are distracting colors and shapes. Simple and plain background can work the best for you.

When the moving car approaches, try to track it slowing in your camera. For extra camera support, you do not need to use longer lens if you feel little jittery. You can use tripod and monopod with swivelling head. You must remain your camera parallel to the moving object path. If you are using camera of automatic focus, let your camera to do the focus for you by pressing shutter button. It will work quickly and remain relevant with the subject.

In case of not having auto focus in your camera, set your camera on the mode of pre-focus at time of shot and then releases up the shutter. If you have an old model digital camera, you need to shoot it while considering the problem of shutter lag. It happens when there is slight delay in pressing the button of taking picture. If you experience this type of problem, you need to learn the moment to get the shot. I hope that all these tips will help you in shooting moving objects easily. By following these simple tips, you can easily get the effect of tail light from a moving car photo shoot.
