Checking the Requirements

You should never try running Windows 7 on an underpowered computer. This is because it is a very modern operating system which needs the best hardware available. You will need to use a 1GHz processor which is either 32 or 64 bit. You will also need 16GB of space available, 1 GB of memory and a supported graphics card for Aero.

Search Indexing

The search indexing service is designed to make searches much quicker. While this does work, it also makes your computer considerably slower. You can turn this off easily by right clicking on computer and choosing manage. Then click services and applications and select services. In the list of windows services take a look for the windows search service. You will then be able to disable this from running at startup.

Disabling Aero

One of the nicest touches of Windows 7 is the aero interface. This includes transparency which looks great but consumes a lot of the power of your computer. If you are running on an older computer or are trying to make your computer run quicker then you should turn this off.
