, using pallet bands is the most effective. Pallet bands or straps keep the cargo firmly secured while the cargo is being transported. Pallet banding can either be made of plastic or metal.

Although affordable and lightweight plastic strapping is widely used, it is only used for lighter cargo. If the tension caused by the weight of the cargo is too much for plastic to handle, strapping made from galvanized steel can do the trick. Galvanized steel strapping can stand enormous tension without breaking or giving way.

In order to use banding to strap down cargo, you must take enough strapping to completely go around the cargo and the pallet, plus some excess. Bring the strapping over the cargo and underneath the pallet. Make sure that the banding overlaps by around 6 to 8 inches then cut off the excess length.

In order to tighten the banding that holds the cargo, you have to use a tensioner. A tensioner is designed to put tension on the strap by pulling it tightly. Since the straps are tight, the cargo will not move around. Clamp down on one end of the strap using the tensioners clamp and bring the other end to the tensioners ratchet. By cranking the tensioner handle, the strap is tightened until it is ready to be sealed with galvanized steel strapping seals.

Put a strapping seal just around the overlapping part of the straps, right in front of the tensioner. If you want, you can add multiple steel banding seals, but just one should be enough for relatively lighter loads. Seal strapping seals can be sealed by hammering with a rubber mallet or by using a special sealing tool. You need to open up the sealing tool by pulling the handles apart from each other before putting it on the seal. Bring the handles together then pull it apart again to disengage.

After putting the steel strapping seals, the only thing left to do is to cut the excess strapping length. Some cargo might require more than one strap, depending on the weight and size of the cargo.
