How To Temporarily Cover A Roof
If you ever find yourself having to find a quick fix to cover your roof due to a
leak or other serious problem, then learning how to temporarily cover your roof can be a very important skill. Covering your roof is not very hard and can be very inexpensive. In fact, you might even have most -- if not all -- of the materials at your home. By following these simple steps you can have your roof covered to stop any more damage from being caused to your home until you can hire someone to fix your roof.
Step 1
The first step is to gather all the materials you will need to cover your roof. This includes a tarp or plastic sheeting of some sort that can cover the roof of your home, a weather-tolerant rope, some stakes, a ladder, and some work gloves. You will need to have all of these materials gathered together before you begin. The only material you may want to wait on is the rope, because the length will differ depending on how big your house is.
Step 2
This is the part that you figure out just how long of a rope you need. You need to measure the height of your home. After you figure out how tall your house is you need to multiple the value you get by two. The number you come out with will be the amount of rope you need.
Step 3
You need to place the stakes in the ground, making sure that they are secure. You will need to tie your ropes to these, so make sure they are put into the ground very well so your ropes will have a steady hold on the ground. Place the stakes on both sides of your house.
Step 4
This step will be the hardest part of this whole process. You need to lay your tarp across the roof of your home, covering any holes or gaps that are causing damage when it rains.
Step 5
Now that your tarp is laid across your roof you are almost done. All you have to do is to tie your rope to your tarp and to your stakes, making sure that the rope is tight so that your tarp remains flat on your roof and doesn't blow off in the wind.
Now that your roof is covered you should hire a professional to come and properly fix your roof as soon as possible. This is only a temporary way to cover your roof, and it is not meant to last long-term.
