As years pass, the popularity and use of neckties is always on the rise with them being considered a symbol to portray sophistication and elegance. Apart from being of great aesthetic value, ties and neckties also provide men with that gentleness and impression of decency and affability.

Ties constitute a very important and frequently used part of men fashion accessories, something which men and boys wear as their office dress or at any formal gathering or meeting. When learning to how to tie a tie, one has to know that there are majorly two methods of tying a mens tie namely- "the Windsor Knot" and "the Four in Hand Knot", both equally popular ways of tying a men"s tie.

The Windsor knot, named after the Duke of Windsor, is considered to be the most sophisticated of tying mens neckties. To make a Windsor knot, the wider end of the tie on the right hand side should be kept at least 25-30 cm longer than the narrow end. Next, the wider end is crossed over the narrower end and brought out through the loop between the tie and collar. Now, the wider end is brought behind the narrower end and again brought out of the loop between the collar and tie. The wider end is then brought afore by bringing it towards the right and again bringing it out of the loop. Lastly, the narrow end is slid up to adjust the knot.

The "Four in Hand Knot" is a more popular way to tie a men"s necktie. It is a simpler knot than the Windsor knot and mostly used on less formal occasions. To make a "Four in Hand Knot", the wider end is placed on the right side, 25-30 cm above the narrow end. Then, it is twice brought out in front by crossing it across the narrow end. Next, the wider end is brought out of the loop and the knot is pulled up. One can always put the finishing touches by making a small dimple at the place where the knot was kept open, so as to leave a final impression.
