Before being considered as a qualified journeyman pipe fitter, he has to undergo comprehensive on-the-job training programs that usually take between four and five years to complete. This includes a special classroom course that runs up to 144 hours to complement the actual skills training. In order to qualify for the training program, the candidate must be at least 18 years of age and must have earned a high school diploma.
