Twitter is an amazing resource for businesses. Its a free marketing, pr and advertising tool. What surprises us, is that more people arent using it as a tool to find a job.

When a potential employer considers hiring you, or even just interviewing you, you can bet your first- born the first thing theyre going to do is Google your name. What kind of results are going to be returned when they Google your name? Since Twitter is now indexed in search engine results, employers and recruiters can easily find you.

If youve been out of work for a while, interviewers might ask why and what youve been up to. Starting a blog that revolves around your industry is a good way to show that youve been busy and havent lost your touch. Make sure to post to it daily. And dont forget to tweet your blog posts!

You can control whats said about you online. Heres a list of things to help you maximize the internet to help you in your job search:

Create a Twitter account and post to it regularly.

Dont post anything on said Twitter account that you wouldnt want your mom or your potential employer to see.

Submit your Twitter account to Twitter directories such as WeFollow and Twellow with keywords related to your job. This will help people find your account and follow you.

Is there a company that you really want to work with? Follow them on Twitter, reply to their tweets, retweet their tweets and show them that you are interested in what they have to offer. They will remember you when it comes time to interview.

Make sure your Facebook page is set to private- you dont want your potential employer reading about the party you went to the night before and how drunk you were.

Create a blog using WordPress, Blogger, or Tumblr- and write a short article on your industry each day or as frequently as possible.

Submit your articles to article submission sites like Ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com. Dont forget to add a link to your blog and twitter in the resources box.
