. However, if you spend enough time around construction sites, you'll probably meet a contractor who had an accident in the past. In some cases, lack of experience caused the accident. But, in many cases, a moment's inattention led to the accident. Circular saws are very powerful and designed to cut heavy construction materials. If a circular saw can cut through a heavy 2" x 12" board without effort, what do you think it can do to your fingers?

A circular saw can be a very handy vinyl siding tool. Use it for various projects:

cutting siding

sheathing

exterior trim

material you might need to cut during your siding installation

As long as you respect the saw and the damage it can inflict, you can use a circular saw safely during you home siding project. If you're buying a new saw, find one with a brake. A brake stops the blade from turning as you release the saw's trigger. If your saw doesn't have a brake, the blade takes a while to stop turning. Here are a few other safety considerations:

Always have a secure platform on which to cut

Before you touch the saw's trigger, always know where your fingers are in relation to the blade before you cut and as you're cutting;

Never force the saw--let the cutting action carry it along

Accidents are more likely to happen if you're tired or rushing

If you feel tired or rushed, take a break or stop for the day. The project will be there tomorrow, but, if you rush, your fingers may not be.
