South sea pearls are very reputable for the charming look they possess and the attention they grab in public for their attractiveness
. Thus, these are also called The Queen of Pearls'. As the name shows these pearls are from the South Seas which lie between the southern coast of China and the northern coast of Australia.
The oyster through which the south sea pearls are formed is of two types. They are silver lipped oysters and gold lipped oysters. The oyster is called Pinctada maxima and is formed in the regions of south sea. So, these pearls are called south sea pearls.
The classification of the pinctada maxima oyster is done by looking at the interior color of the oyster. South Sea Pearls are available in shades of white, blue, yellow, gold, ivory and silver colors and are in different shapes. Perfect round shape south sea pearls is not that difficult to find as most of the pearls available take a perfect shape either round or triangular. It is also common to find irregularlu shaped pearls which are comparatively cheaper than the rest.
South sea pearls are majorly grown in the regions of Myanmar and Indonesia. Due to the long cultivation period of nearly 2 years and the extra care to be taken all during this duration, these pearls are costly. Most pearl necklaces made of south sea pearls have the size of 9mm for pearls. The largest one ever found is the 24mm sized south sea pearl. Though these are very expensive, they are worth for the money spent.
