How can we use our maturity to build a better world?

It is a fact that the population of the world is maturing

. And all that you hear about this generation is that it will create more problems while in fact the situation properly utilized should create solutions. After all, most of the older generations have lived through decades of war, healthy and now worsening economies, have been gainfully employed in a number of business spheres, have raised families, and have solved problems and created projects, and more. This is a generation that lived without the comfort that we have now, and yet most likely has been the most productive of all, including the generation that is coming of age now. Yet, it seems that the only time we get riled up is when the talk hovers around Social Security. And by no means should one discount its worth. Yet, it is amazing how such wealth of experience has negated our ability to organize and step up efforts to get our voices heard, or simply within our communities raise our profiles as people who are willing to buck the system into changing their long held opinion that being mature means your brains are mush.

Nowadays senior generation is in better health, more socially attuned, more aware and involved with our global world, and has time and in some cases money to push forward meaningful projects. Yet, most of us don't get to use those abilities to generate interest by small or large corporations to provide meaningful input, specifically as it relates to how to work with our own generation. Who better understands today's older market place than those who are actually part of it. Who knows better what products are necessary, in what form, how our market would like to be approached and what real customer service looks like, than those who are part of that market. It is amazing to see, for example, within the tourism industry, how many companies put the younger generation in charge, who do not have a clue of what the older generation requires, what they like and what they absolutely abhor. Yet, it is seldom that you see a more mature person in charge of an older crowd. It maybe that the male part of this mature market, gets a kick out of being with a younger female, yet, when it comes to being served by someone, who does not understand your hearing problem this passion quickly dies.

Not only are we perceived not to be capable of holding a job that requires more than putting stamps on an envelope, the real problem is the loneliness that occurs, when a mature being who keeps up with the news, not just locally but from abroad, has not person or persons to share their opinions or even to be heard. Here are the pillars of a fast growing society which through past endeavors has brought us to this space and time, whose opinions and contributions are based on wisdom gathered over years and decades that are now literally going to waste. And it is not only other generations that keep us from going forward, it is our generation itself that does not put up a fight. Now is the time, now more than ever, that the mature generations needs to take stock and put the responsibility for our own future in our own hands, we are after all in charge of our own lives, and no one can take that away from us. Let's prove that millions of us old folks still have what it takes to take back our future, and at the same time influence the future for those whom we have nurtured. No one can take your power, as long as you, yourself realize that you have it.
