Employee engagement is a matter of serious concern in most corporate. In true sense, employee engagement refers to engaging the employees meaningfully in an organization that would benefit the organization and the employees equally.
It is very unfortunate that, widely understood meaning for the above phrase is making the employee busy. A busy employee is less useful to the organization. More, one become busy, less creative he becomes. Psychologically, the employer feel nice for the fact that they could make their employees to run for the money. Most entrepreneurs are likely to get misguided by their coterie that all the employees are engaged very well.
The very growth of the organization lies in the growth of the employees. Total quality people (TQP) are only making the organization. The question every entrepreneur must ask is, whether all the employees in the organization are engaged sufficiently to go to the next level and if so when?
Engaging the employees should be based on their skill, knowledge, capability and people managing talent. Vision and passion are the two key ingredients must for people to move the next level. More often, the bosses love to engage the people just' physically than intellectually. Most bosses also love to engage the employees in an area of their weakness or dislike, stating that they must gain expertise in those areas only then they can move to the next level. Unfortunately, HR also becomes parties to the above game plan.
Having control over others is the basic weakness most bosses carry within them. Identifying the weakness and weak area of the employees is assumed to be the strength of most bosses. The core strength of the employees are less discussed or developed. When the area of strength is not tapped properly, how an employee could benefit the organization? By engaging the employee in his weak area, what great job one can make them to do for the organization. Then what does the statement of all employees are engaged means?
Your weakness is my strength approach must disappear from the corporate to ensure growth. Organization focus must prevail in employee engagement rather than game of chess approach. Many organizations failed to grow beyond a level not because they lack people resource but they lack vision and leadership traits. Most often, they are sucked into the narrow ends and means.
