Breakups hurt and there's no doubt about that! Especially when you are the one who is being broken up with and have no idea why it happened or it came as a surprise even if you had an incline.

You are left alone when you used to be a unit. You are fending for yourself in this world when you used to have an ally. It can feel like you are starting over, not just in regards to a new relationship, but regarding your life as well.

And all this happens whether the relationship was a good one or not. It's natural and it is something that you have to deal with to move on and have a better and happier life or else you will be stuck in this feeling of depression and loneliness for a long time.

First you need to deal with the mental aspect of the breakup. The part that tells you that you are alone for the rest of your life and nothing will ever get better.

If your relationship was rocky and stressful than you should look at your breakup as a relief, an escape, from that pressure. You get to start clean and you can now choose to be in a stress free zone that you create, and you are the one who gets to guard against those negative emotions and situations, and you have complete control over them.

No more agreeing to do something you hate because of your partner. No more fighting over who is going to do this or who forgot to do that, or the big one - who's right and who's wrong.

Now it's you taking control of your life and doing things your way. Your way is a way that pleases you and causes you no stress.

So keep that in mind while working through your emotions. You are on to better and bigger things and the possibilities of where you are going are endless.

Next deal with the ways to help you keep thinking your positive thoughts until you completely accept them.

The biggest thing you can do to speed up the process of getting over your ex and to keep yourself positive about the situation is to not see them. Avoid contact with your ex until you have fully dealt with the emotions that you are trying to deal with.

When you see your ex it reminds you of all the good times you have had together and those feelings come back to the surface. Once that happens those feelings then affect how you think and you will start to miss them and feel like you want a future with them and you will then think about everything the two of you are going to miss out on and how it's not fair.

It's going to happen. All these thoughts will lead to more pain and suffering and you will have to start over from step one of training your brain to think positive again.

However long it takes you to get over them is how long you should avoid contact with them. Focus on your health and sanity and not what other people say or want.

Being happy after a breakup can happen quickly with a little work but if you let the sadness go on for too long you can end up in a crazy depression that does nothing good for you except wastes that time of your life.
