If you are anything like me, you may have wondered how to be the best wife without being a doormat. I am quite strong and hot tempered so you wouldn't normally describe me as being a doormat. But apparently men like a little of that and some men like it quite a lot. But how do you get the balance right?

Well you don't have to wait at the door with his pipe and slippers, ready to welcome him home in your Stepford wife dress. Although, sadly some men would like that very much and some might even get turned on by it. I will assume you have some pride and won't attempt to do this even if it does result in a great night of passion. Subservient sex games never end well and always involve by definition, someone being exploited.

All you need to do sometimes is show your husband some affection, but mainly in private. Most men do not like public shows of affection and some men are made quite embarrassed by it. The sad truth is that for most men affection is only a prelude to sex. So why do it in public? This is illogical to them and serves no purpose.

Try and take the lead and spice up your sex life. But not with the Stepford wife thing that's just weird. Why not surprise him with a lovely candle lit gourmet meal. You know what they say "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach"; of course we all know that's the second best way to his heart and if you need me to tell you what the first way is, you really do need help.

Follow the meal with a massage or shoulder rub. This will help him relax, calm down and stop thinking about work etc. Don't make him clear up or help you, let him relax and spoil him a little. Spoiling the man you love isn't subservience; it's just showing him how much you value him and love him. Although he may get a little suspicious at first, I'm sure you can take his mind off that fairly quickly. Slip into something more comfortable and do your thang!

Texting is a really modern way of flirting. Text him at work and let him know you miss him. Text him and explain what you would like to be doing right now with him and tease him a little. If you are out at a restaurant, tease him under the table. Stroke his hand or whatever is nearest. Use your imagination!

Encourage him to have his mates around for the football, card game or whatever is his penchant. Get some beers in and his favourite nibbles. He will enjoy the night and his mates will be extremely envious of the fact that he has the best wife who is willing to do this for him.

Be nice to his friends, they are not competition. I have met many women that treat their husband's mates as enemies or competition. When a man is with his mates he is in another zone that doesn't involve you but this doesn't mean he doesn't love you. A man's love for his mates is a completely different kind of love but in English unfortunately we only have one word for love, unlike the Italians who have many.

Now you might think that I have over egged the pudding here but if you can't show your man how much you appreciate and love him you are always going to have a rocky relationship. Contrary to popular belief, men love a woman because of how they make them feel. The answer to the question how to be the best wife?' is make him feel special and he will be yours forever.
