A lot of golfers will play golf a lot over the years and as they become experienced

and reach the peak of their game you may feel like you want to teach others either learning the sport for the first time or those who are struggling and require a little guidance over particular shot types or issues with their shots. Becoming a golf coach is a great way to do this and many courses are seeking golf professionals to teach new members or become a resident golfing guru.

There are quite a few requirements for becoming a legal golf professional or tutor and a lot of skills other than being really good at golf, for instance most professionals will have a very low golf handicap around 3. Most golf tutors are experienced in playing golf as well as all of the underlying mechanics such as the swing, shot types and common issues and how to fix them. You'll be asked lots of questions from those learning from you and in many cases have to lead by example when it comes to the details.

One other skill you'll need is being patient and being a people-person, these are vital when you are teaching people to play golf. Your students are likely to get frustrated if they are struggling and if you are breathing down their neck and getting frustrated then it won't help their confidence and is more likely to encourage them to give up the game of golf altogether.

Breaking down the problems and having an eye for small details such as the wrists rotating causing the club head to hit the ball incorrectly and identifying problems with the stance or swing will be something only someone with experience will be able to spot. Being able to diagnose any problems will help the golfer become more confident and have some key advice that will help them iron out any problems they encounter.

There are many opportunities for seasoned golfers to become golf tutors whether it is coaching family or friends or perhaps becoming a recognised tutor via an authoritative body such as the PGA, WGTF or EGTF (Professional Golfers Association, World Golf Teachers Federation, and Europe Golf Teachers Federation) where you could even make coaching your job. As long as you have a desire to teach others and will enjoy teaching people how to become better golfers then coaching could be the perfect solution for you.
