How to Become a Licensed CPA

The Path to Obtaining A CPA License may not be for everyone, but those who tread on it are on their way to a fulfilling and promising career in public accounting, among many others.

The first step in going towards The Path of Obtaining A CPA License, is deciding that we want to become full-pledged CPAs. This is not an easy task so only those who are not faint of heart usually succeed in becoming a licensed CPA.

Fulfilling the education requirements will take years for us to stay in college, plus there are some states that require an additional 150 hours of accredited units in post-graduate studies in order to get on the right track to The Path of Obtaining A CPA License.

Completion of a Baccalaureate degree in business, with accredited units in accounting and business are major qualifications we have to undertake prior to becoming a CPA.

It would be best if we can check out the specific education requirements in the state we wish to practice in or take our CPA Exams in to ensure that we have fulfilled all required fields.

TAKING THE UNIFORM CPA EXAMS

The educational requirements are actually what we need in order for us to be accepted to take the Uniform CPA Exam. Passing this test is the second step towards The Path of Obtaining A CPA License.

However, we are not required to fulfill all educational obligations before we can take the CPA Exams. If, for instance, we have only completed 120 hours of the required 150 hours for the CPA Exam, we can still take the tests but we must fulfill the remaining number of hours required within the allowed period of time, before we can start on our next step to The Path to Obtaining A CPA License.

Usually, we will be given up to three years to complete all educational requirements upon passing the CPA Exams. If we fail to do this within the allotted period, we will have to take the Uniform CPA Exams again.

GETTING A CPA LICENSE

Once we have fulfilled all the educational requirements and passed the Uniform CPA Exam, another requirement that we must comply with in order to be on our way to The Path to Obtaining A CPA License, is the work experience in accounting.

Typically, we need to fulfill at least one year of continuous work in a public accounting firm or under a licensed CPA, depending on which state we are applying for the license.

Additional hours required working in the capacity of reporting full disclosure on financial statements, including collecting of full disclosure financial statements.

There are also further requirements that we need to fulfill in order to keep our license, once we have been issued one. Continuing Education including professional ethics courses is necessary in order to maintain our license.

Finally, adhering to the professional code of ethics for CPAs is a must at all times to prove that we are worthy to be holding such a prestigious license, and practicing in the field of public accountancy.
