Boring when everything is well setup and working. That you are just waiting for a user to call for help, but seldom happen because everything is OK.
Ok those are the overview, here are the details.
1. Puzzle solving. Some users will call for help with telling any clue. They are expecting that the technician would know how to solve it.
2. Working in a lab. There are scenarios or errors that need to simulated. Replicating how error happens will help a lot for computer technician troubleshooting and finding the culprit.
3. Technical support. When systems are implemented, IT is playing important task in familiarizing and learning the system before the turnover. Installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting of the system will be turned over to the IT guys. With this exposure, they are expected to support their users once system is fully implemented. This would require Computer Technician to receive calls, mails or may be hands on support when errors happen.
4. System training. Being the support and administrator of the system, Computer Technicians are also expected to train employees especially new ones. This is commonly part of new employee's orientation as we all know.
5. Hardware and software installation. This is one of the basic tasks of a computer technician.
6. Hardware and software upgrade. There will be a time that company would choose to just upgrade the workstations than replacing it. This is very relevant especially these days that companies are very reluctant to spend into IT infrastructure because of other priorities.
7. Hardware and software inventory. For large companies, it will be a requirement for them to use system that will do the inventory and monitoring of their hardware and software.
Being a computer technician is indeed exciting most of the time. Best part of it is co-employees get-together every time there are errors and trainings.
