There are many ways to write resumes. Employers certainly know as they receive thousands of resumes weekly from applicants. It is important to have a solid, clear and easy to read resume when applying for an internship or a job.
There are five things to keep in mind when writing your resume.
Contact Information
You always need to include your contact information in the top left corner. Make sure to include your name, address, phone number and email address. No one wants to receive a resume without eliminate contact information.
Objective
What's your professional objective? Include a short paragraph with one to two sentences describing your goals. This will give the employer a better understanding of what you pursuing.
Stay Professional
Use simple fonts such as Times, Arial or Helvetica in order to stay professional. Use a font size of 11 or 12 which will make the resume more readable. Do not mix different types of fonts, as that might be difficult to read for the employer. In addition, mixing fonts and colors are in general considered as unprofessional.
Short and concise
How do you get your resume on the top of the stack? Employers are busy and want to know why you are the right person for the job within a few minutes, otherwise your resume will be discarded. Your job is to convince the reader that you are the perfect candidate. Choose your words carefully and use bullet points to convey your strengths and don't forget to keep it short.
Consistency
Use the spell-check, avoid grammar mistakes and spelling mistakes. A tip to avoid these errors is to have a friend proofread your resume before sending. It's vital to include the dates on your previous experiences and to establish a flow while reading.
