Most people are unaware of the fact that there are different kinds of mites existent today. These mites are classified in accordance to the conditions that are caused by them. Out of all the mites known today, the scabies mites as well as the bird mite are the two most commonly kinds of mites afflicting human beings. In addition, there are other varieties such as red bugs or chiggers. For the most part, the bites caused by these mites would lead to red welts or itchy blisters. Therefore it is important to recognise the mites, so as to treat them before they lead to greater discomfort.

As far as identification is concerned, you must know that chiggers are red, little bugs which are brownish or reddish-orange in colour. The larvae would possess about 6 legs, whereas the adults would have 8 legs. All these mites belong to the "tick" family and it is difficult to spot one without the help of a magnifying glass. The scabies mites would prefer damp places for their survival whereas the bird mites would be commonly found near weeds or grass.

The bird mites are not infectious in nature when infested in humans, whereas the scabies mites can easily transfer from one host to another, while coming into contact with the infested area or individual. The bird mites on humans can cause some discomfort, but are not as dangerous as the scabies mites. Unlike the bird mites, the scabies mites would complete a full life cycle on the host and lay their eggs beneath the surface of skin.
